PREMATURE EJACULATION

Description

Premature Ejaculation (P.E) defined as when a man orgasms sooner than he or his partner would like to.

P.E can exist in two categories called as Primary P.E (lifelong P.E) which ejaculation is always or nearly always occurs prior to or within about one minute of vaginal penetration from the first sexual experience. Another is Secondary P.E (acquired P.E) with clinically significant reduction in intravaginal penetration time often about 3 minutes or less.

How Common is P.E?

It is estimated that approximately 20%-30% of men have a problem with premature ejaculation at some point in their life. Commonly it affects men with age 40 years and above associated with erectile dysfunction.

What are the causes?

  • Poor Health Status – Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, High Blood Pressure, Excessive alcohol consumption, use of recreational drugs (cocaine, ecstasy)
  • Prostate Disease
  • Thyroid Hormone Disorders
  • Traumatic sexual experience
  • Emotional and Stress Problems
  • Erectile Dysfunction (E.D) – being anxious to lose erection causing to “rush” the intercourse
  • Performance anxiety – The start of new relationship or previous experience of P.E and E.D

 

What are the treatments?

  • Oral Medication – To control the ejaculatory time

  • Topical spray or cream – to reduce the sensitivity of penis head

  • Kegel therapy – This machine utilizes Electromagnetic Field (EMF) technology which transmits waves around Pelvic Floor of patient sitting on a chair attached to it. Ultimately it helps to strengthen the pelvic floor muscle which is responsible for control of ejaculation thus improving sexual performance. Other benefits are improving urinary leak due to weak bladder and pelvic floor, improve blood circulation around pelvic floor as well as pelvic pain syndrome. Usually it is done 2-3 times per week for several sessions to obtain maximum long lasting effect.

Is Premature Ejaculation Curable?

Premature ejaculation treatment can help boost confidence and self esteem and enhance sexual pleasure and intimate relationships. When left untreated, premature ejaculation can lead to feelings of shame, frustration, and lack of self-esteem or avoiding sexual intimacy altogether. In almost all cases, P.E can be cured. Treatment may involve medications, pelvic floor muscle strengthening, support from mental health therapist for psychobehavioural therapy when anxiety, depression and mental related issue arising due to severe form of P.E.
