What is RYBELSUS ?
Rybelsus is an oral medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It contains semaglutide a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which helps lower blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin production, reducing the amount of glucose produced by the liver, and slowing down digestion. Rybelsus is the first GLP-1 medication available in pill form, offering a convenient option for those looking to manage their diabetes without injections.
It’s typically used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and may also support weight loss in some patients.
What Rybelsus actually does? Does Rybelsus work?
Rybelsus works by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which regulates blood sugar levels. It helps to:
- Stimulate insulin production in response to meals.
- Reduce glucose production by the liver.
- Slow down digestion, which helps control post-meal blood sugar spikes.
- Reduce appetite, potentially leading to weight loss.

Its active ingredient, semaglutide, helps regulate blood sugar and reduces appetite, leading to weight loss as a secondary effect. However, weight loss results may vary, and its not specifically approved as a weight loss drug like some injectable alternatives (eg wegovy or saxenda). Rybelsus is convenient as an oral medication, but potential side effects like nausea, vomiting , and gastrointestinal issues should be considered. Always consult a healthcare provider to determine if it’s appropriate for your weight loss goals.
