Timing matters

Understanding the Window Period

The "window period" is the gap between a possible exposure and when a test can reliably detect HIV. Testing too early can produce a false-negative result, so the right test depends on your timeline.

18-45 days

4th-Gen Lab Test

Detects both antigen and antibodies, so it can identify infection earlier after exposure.

23-90 days

Rapid Antibody Test

Detects antibodies, which take longer for the body to produce, so it confirms slightly later.

Re-test

Confirm a Clear Result

If you tested inside the window, repeat after it closes so your non-reactive result is certain.

Not sure how long it has been, or worried about a very recent exposure? Message us before you come in, we will advise you on the right test and the right timing for an accurate result.

Your privacy

Your Privacy Is Fully Protected

This service was built around discretion. No identification, name or contact details are required to be tested, and no medical record is created unless you specifically ask for one. You remain in a private room throughout, and results are shared only with you.

As a Malaysian clinic, any information you do choose to share is handled strictly in line with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010. Your status, your visit and your details are never disclosed to anyone without your consent.

Support, whatever the result

If Your Result Is Reactive

A reactive screening result does not, by itself, confirm HIV, it means a confirmatory test is needed. Our doctor will explain this calmly and help you arrange the next steps in complete confidence.

Modern HIV treatment (antiretroviral therapy) is highly effective. People who start treatment early can expect a long, healthy life and can reach an undetectable viral load, meaning the virus cannot be passed on to partners (U=U). Whatever your result, testing is the first step towards taking control of your health.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the HIV test really anonymous?
Yes. You don't need to give your name, IC or any ID to get tested. We don't open a medical record unless you ask us to, and your result is only ever shared with you.
Do I need to bring any ID?
No. Anonymous means exactly that. There is nothing to fill in and nothing to show at the counter.
Can I walk in, or should I book first?
Both work. Walk-ins are welcome, but a quick WhatsApp message lets us set a quiet time for you so there is little to no waiting.
How accurate is the rapid HIV test?
The Alere rapid test is very reliable once you are past the window period. If a result comes back reactive, we always confirm it with a second, confirmatory test.
What is the difference between the rapid test and the 4th-generation lab test?
The rapid test uses a finger prick and gives you an answer in about 15 to 20 minutes. The 4th-generation lab test uses a small blood sample, checks for both the p24 antigen and antibodies, and can pick up HIV earlier. Lab results usually come back in 1 to 3 days.
How soon after a possible exposure can I test?
The 4th-generation lab test is usually reliable from around 18 to 45 days after exposure. The rapid antibody test is reliable from around 23 to 90 days. If you test early, we will suggest a repeat test once the window has passed.
What is the window period?
It is the gap between a possible exposure and the point where a test can reliably detect HIV. Testing before this window closes can miss an early infection, which is why timing matters.
Does the test hurt?
Not really. The rapid test is a small finger prick that is over in seconds. The lab test is a routine blood draw.
How long do results take?
Rapid results are ready in about 15 to 20 minutes while you wait. Lab results are usually back within 1 to 3 days and are shared with you privately.
Will anyone find out my result?
No. Your result stays between you and our medical team. We follow Malaysia's PDPA 2010 for anything you choose to share with us.
What happens if my result is reactive?
A reactive screening result does not confirm HIV on its own. It means a follow-up confirmatory test is needed. Our doctor will talk you through it calmly and help you arrange the next steps. Treatment today is very effective, and an early diagnosis makes a real difference.
Do I need symptoms to get tested?
No. Many people with HIV have no symptoms for years. Testing is the only way to know your status, with or without symptoms.
How much does the test cost?
It depends on which test you choose. Message us on WhatsApp for current pricing. There is no obligation and your enquiry stays private.
Where is the clinic located?
We are in Rawang, Selangor, within easy reach of the Klang Valley. Message us for directions and a discreet appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is anonymous HIV testing and how does it work in Malaysia?

Anonymous HIV testing at Vivardi Clinics means your test is conducted without recording your full name or IC number in association with the result. You are identified by a code or patient number only. A blood sample is taken for a 4th generation HIV Ag/Ab combination test, which detects both p24 antigen (early infection marker) and antibodies. Results are available in 30 minutes (rapid test) or 1–3 working days (laboratory test). Reactive results are followed by a confirmatory test before any diagnosis is made.

How accurate is the HIV test and when should I test?

The 4th generation HIV Ag/Ab combination test used at Vivardi Clinics has a sensitivity exceeding 99.5% from 28 days after potential exposure. Testing at 28 days post-exposure provides a highly reliable result. A repeat test at 90 days confirms a negative result with near-100% certainty. If you have symptoms of acute HIV infection (fever, rash, swollen glands within 2–4 weeks of exposure), testing sooner with a p24 antigen test is recommended.

Is anonymous HIV testing truly confidential in Malaysia?

At Vivardi Clinics, anonymous HIV testing is strictly confidential. No information about your visit or test result is reported to any government authority, employer, insurance company, or third party. The only exception involves mandatory disease notification under Malaysian law for confirmed HIV diagnoses — even then, notification is based on clinical case requirements, not your anonymous test record. You may receive your result and leave without any personal information linked to the test.

What happens if my HIV test is reactive?

A reactive rapid test result is a preliminary finding and does NOT constitute a diagnosis. A confirmatory test (Western Blot or RNA PCR) is performed. If the confirmatory test is also positive, our doctors provide comprehensive counselling, explain the next steps including referral to a public or private HIV specialist, discuss treatment options (antiretroviral therapy/ART), and provide support resources. With modern ART, people living with HIV lead healthy, normal lives with an undetectable viral load.

How much does anonymous HIV testing cost in Malaysia?

Anonymous HIV rapid testing at Vivardi Clinics is priced affordably to encourage regular testing. A single rapid HIV test typically costs RM80–RM150. A comprehensive sexual health screen (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B&C, gonorrhoea, chlamydia) costs RM400–RM800 depending on panels selected. No referral is required and appointments can be made same-day. Contact us for current pricing and same-day testing availability.
