Pigmentation is one of the most common skin concerns in Malaysia, and it can be stubborn to treat with creams alone. Modern laser technology offers a more effective way to target dark spots and uneven tone. At Vivardi Clinics in Rawang, Selangor, our doctors use advanced laser treatments to help combat pigmentation safely.
What causes pigmentation?
Pigmentation happens when the skin produces excess melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour. Common triggers include sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation and ageing. In our sunny climate, sun-related pigmentation is especially common. Different types of pigmentation, such as sunspots and melasma, behave differently and need different care.
How laser technology helps
Advanced lasers target the excess pigment in the skin, breaking it into tiny particles that the body clears naturally. Newer systems are designed to do this effectively while being gentler on the surrounding skin. Our Pico laser uses ultra-short pulses to treat pigment, and it is one of the most popular options for uneven tone and dark spots.
Why assessment is important
Not all pigmentation is the same, and treating it incorrectly can sometimes make it worse, particularly with melasma. A doctor-led assessment identifies the type of pigmentation and chooses the right settings and approach. This is safer and far more effective than guessing or using harsh products at home. If you are unsure what type you have, our guide on telling melasma and sunspots apart can help.
Protecting your results
Because sun exposure is a major cause, daily sun protection is essential to keep pigmentation from returning after treatment. Your doctor will explain simple aftercare to protect your results, which matters even more in our climate. Learn why in our article on why pigmentation keeps coming back.
