ESWT Treatment in Rawang: Who Is It For and What Results Can You Expect?

If you have been searching for ESWT or shockwave therapy in Rawang or nearby Selangor, this guide covers everything you need to know about the treatment, who it suits, and what outcomes you can realistically expect at Vivardi Clinics Rawang.

ESWT, which stands for Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic wave energy to stimulate tissue healing and regeneration. In men’s health, it is primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction caused by poor penile blood flow.

This content is educational. A medical assessment is required before ESWT treatment.

What Is ESWT Used For in Men’s Health?

At Vivardi Clinics Rawang, ESWT is used specifically for the treatment of vasculogenic erectile dysfunction. This is the most common form of ED and refers to erectile problems caused by insufficient blood flow to the penile tissue.

It is important to distinguish this from ED caused primarily by:

• Psychological factors (performance anxiety, stress, depression)
• Hormonal issues (low testosterone, thyroid problems)
• Neurological causes (nerve damage from prostate surgery, spinal issues)
• Medication side effects

All of these can contribute to ED, and our assessment at Vivardi Clinics identifies which factors are at play for each patient. ESWT is most effective when vascular (blood flow) causes are a primary or significant contributing factor.

Who Is a Good Candidate for ESWT in Rawang?

Men who tend to get the best results from ESWT include:

• Men with mild to moderate ED who can sometimes achieve erections but not consistently or not firmly enough
• Men who respond to ED pills (sildenafil, tadalafil) but prefer a longer-term solution without relying on medication before every encounter
• Men who do not respond well to ED medications due to significant vascular disease, where ESWT may improve vascular health enough to restore responsiveness
• Men with diabetes or cardiovascular risk factors where the underlying vascular disease is affecting penile blood flow
• Men who prefer non-pharmacological treatment as a primary or adjunctive approach

How Does ESWT Work?

Low intensity shockwaves are delivered to the penile tissue through a handheld probe placed against the skin. These acoustic waves create mechanical stress in the tissue that triggers several beneficial biological responses:

• Stimulation of new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) in the penile tissue
• Release of growth factors that support tissue repair
• Breakdown of micro-plaques in blood vessels that restrict flow
• Activation of stem cell populations that contribute to tissue regeneration

The overall result is improved blood vessel health and blood flow in the penile tissue, which is the physical foundation of erectile function.

What Happens at Your First ESWT Appointment at Vivardi Clinics Rawang?

Your first appointment is not the treatment itself. It is the assessment.

Our doctor will take a detailed history of your erectile difficulties including when they started, how severe they are, whether you experience morning erections, and what factors seem to affect them. We will also review your general health, medications, cardiovascular risk factors, and relevant blood results.

This assessment determines:

• Whether ESWT is appropriate for your specific situation
• Whether any other factors need to be addressed alongside or before ESWT (for example, low testosterone, uncontrolled diabetes, or high blood pressure)
• What results you can realistically expect
• Whether combination treatment is likely to produce better outcomes

What Happens During an ESWT Session?

• You lie comfortably. No preparation or fasting is required
• Coupling gel is applied to the treatment area to help the shockwaves penetrate effectively
• The doctor applies the shockwave probe to the penile shaft and surrounding areas in a systematic pattern
• Each session lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes
• The sensation is typically described as mild tapping, buzzing, or tingling. It is well tolerated without anaesthesia by the vast majority of patients
• You can go home and carry on with normal activities immediately after

How Many Sessions and How Often?

The standard initial protocol is:

• Six sessions over approximately three weeks
• Typically two sessions per week
• Follow-up assessment four to six weeks after completing the course

For men with more significant vascular disease or incomplete response, a second course may be recommended. Some patients also benefit from periodic maintenance sessions every six to twelve months.

When Will You See Results?

ESWT results are biological rather than immediate. The tissue regeneration and new blood vessel formation stimulated by the shockwaves take time to develop.

• Some men notice early improvement during or shortly after the treatment course
• Significant improvement is typically seen four to eight weeks after completing the full course
• Maximum benefit is usually apparent at the three month mark

This timeline is different from oral ED medications, which work within an hour. ESWT produces ongoing improvements in baseline erectile function rather than a time-limited effect.

How Long Do ESWT Results Last?

Clinical studies show that improvements from ESWT last one to two years in many patients. The structural improvements in penile blood vessel health do not reverse immediately when treatment stops.

For men with progressive vascular conditions like diabetes or coronary artery disease, periodic maintenance sessions help sustain results over the longer term as the underlying condition continues to affect vascular health.

Is ESWT Safe?

Low intensity ESWT for ED has an excellent safety profile in clinical literature. Unlike high-intensity shockwave treatments used in orthopaedics or urology for kidney stones, the energy levels used for ED treatment are significantly lower.

Reported side effects are rare and minor:

• Temporary mild soreness or redness at the treatment site
• Very occasional minor bruising
• Temporary increased sensitivity, usually resolving within a day

There are no systemic side effects because the treatment is local and non-pharmacological.

Can ESWT Be Combined With Testosterone Therapy?

Yes. If low testosterone is identified alongside vasculogenic ED, addressing both simultaneously typically produces better outcomes than treating either alone. Testosterone plays a supporting role in erectile function, and combining testosterone replacement with ESWT can be an effective combined approach.

Your doctor at Vivardi Clinics will assess testosterone levels as part of your men’s health evaluation and discuss whether combined treatment is appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ESWT available without a doctor’s assessment in Rawang?

At Vivardi Clinics, no. Every patient undergoes a proper medical assessment before any ESWT treatment. This ensures the treatment is appropriate for your specific condition and that any contributing health factors are identified and addressed. Providing ESWT without assessment is not safe clinical practice.

Can I go for ESWT if I have diabetes?

Yes, and diabetes is one of the most common conditions in ESWT patients because diabetic vascular damage is a major cause of vasculogenic ED. However, blood sugar control matters. Uncontrolled diabetes limits the tissue healing response that ESWT relies on. Part of your assessment will review your diabetes management.

How do I know if my ED is vascular or psychological?

A useful indicator is whether you ever experience spontaneous erections, including morning erections. If you do, this suggests the vascular mechanism is partly intact and psychological factors may be more prominent. If morning erections have completely disappeared, vascular causes are more likely. A proper assessment with your doctor is the definitive way to differentiate.
